Project Update 12/26/08 (Papercraft)

The past few weeks have been busy, but I managed to a get a little bit accomplished on the paper forms. Here are some pictures:

First phase of construction.

Sewing it together.

Same form as above lasercut from maple veneer.

Working with veneer has its challenges! Paper is much more forgiving.

Rhino Models.

Ornament 1 / Gravity 0

A few weeks ago an ornament sliped off our three and crashed on the floor. Except…. it didn’t crash, it didn’t break, it just stuck in our wood floor like a lawn dart! Here are some photos:

Project Update 12/07/08 (papercraft)

This piece is made from 4 manila folders. The patterned was made in rhino, printed using a standard household printer, cut out by hand, and sewn with wishing line. It was supposed to be made from wood veneer, but I could not find the time to use the laser cutter. In this piece I was trying to explore asymmetry by subtly giving this form three feet on its base. Now that I know that asymmetry will work, the next few pieces will explore it more dramatically.
